What is the Junior Challenge Series?

For over 14 years (28 seasons) Top Seed’s Junior Challenge Series has grown to become a very popular part of our juniors’ tennis development program adding an additional competition component to our kids’ group lessons and private lessons.  Held at the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center, 23400 Park Sorrento, Calabasas, CA. 91302.  We average 60 – 75 participants each season.  The Junior Challenge Series has two seasons each year.  A Spring season, which usually starts in mid March and runs to early June, and a Fall season, which usually starts in mid September and runs to mid December.

The Top Seed Pro Staff puts together challenge matches on Sunday afternoons.  We control the competition and the matches with at least one Top Seed pro supervising the action every Sunday.  Many parents simply drop their kids off to practice and pick them up when they are done.

You do not have to be a member of the Calabasas Tennis Club or our junior program to enroll in the Junior Challenge Series.

The Challenge Series is flexible enough to accommodate juniors who also play USTA & VCJTA tournaments during the season.  If you make it to the semis or finals of a tournament on Sunday, we understand, and encourage playing tournaments as part of a junior’s tennis development.  You do not have to be present every Sunday, everyone misses a session here and there, but the idea is to enroll in a consistent practice program.

We have match play and practice for ALL levels, beginners (beginning players must be able to serve, keep score, and know the rules.)  Novice & Satellite players as well as Open & ranked juniors along with High School players are all included.

USTA NET GEN 10 & UNDER TENNIS TOO…..

We also utilize low compression, “green dot” balls when two 10 & under kids play each other.  We can use the low compression balls as an option in the Junior Challenge Series, since our younger players may be playing USTA sanctioned 10 & under tournaments, they might as well practice a little with the same ball used in competition.  We will assign some of our challenge matches with the low compression “green dot” ball.

Whatever level the junior is playing at, our goal is to provide the RIGHT competition and practice for them.

Match times are posted each week based on Top Seed ladder standings or UTR ratings.

The cost for the Junior Challenge Series program is $149.00 or if you want to come when you can, it’s $35.00 per session, on a space available basis.  We encourage participants to enroll in the program as a whole, even if you know you will miss a few sessions.  We’ve priced it to offer your best value per session.  Enrolling in the entire program builds a sense of commitment and dedication to improvement.  Payment is made at the time of check in at the Tennis Center front desk.  There is no online payment system at the time.

Along with the online registration, hard copy registration forms are available at the front desk in the Tennis Center.

Awards ceremony and pizza party are held on the last day of the Series each season.  We try to give out as many awards as we can, however, we believe in preparing our junior players for reality and not every participant will receive an award.  Outstanding achievements are recognized like set winning percentage, participation, most matches won, greatest ladder movement, MVP, sportsmanship, etc.
